Big Calculator

A calculator you can actually see.

Four things — add, subtract, multiply and divide — with keys and digits large enough to read and to hit first time. Nothing else is on the screen. It was built for people who find the calculator that came with their phone too small.

What it does

Keys you can hit first time

The keypad fills the screen. Digits are set in a heavy face at a size meant to be read at arm's length, and each glyph is centred on its own ink rather than on its box, so the characters sit where the eye expects them.

Hide the memory keys and everything grows

MRC, M− and M+ occupy a row most people never touch. Turn them off in Settings and every remaining key gets taller — about 13% on an iPhone.

Three looks

Warm Paper is bright and easy to read. Night is high contrast and easier on the eyes in a dark room. Classic is the original look, bolder. One tap to switch, and the app remembers.

Numbers written the way you write them

The decimal point, the thousands separator and the keypad all follow your region. A German sum reads 123.456,78; a French one 123 456,78; an Indian one groups in lakhs as 1,23,456.78. The decimal key is labelled with your own separator, not with a full stop.

Sums that don't run out of room

Up to 19 digits in an entry, and very large results no longer end the app — an overflow when multiplying repeatedly is handled rather than fatal.

Reads correctly in your language

Thirteen languages, including right-to-left layout for Arabic, where the whole interface mirrors.

Questions and bug reports are welcome, and so is a note telling us something is hard to read — that is the whole point of this app, and if it is not working for you we would rather hear it.

Email strikespark.feedback@gmail.com.

It helps to include your device, your iOS version and the language the app is running in. For a result that looks wrong, the exact keys you pressed are usually enough to reproduce it.
